Terms of Service
Last updated: [set a date when you publish this]
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of Mainstreet Ledger (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms on behalf of yourself and the business you represent.
1. Accounts and trials
Creating an account requires accurate business and contact information. New accounts receive a 14-day free trial; no payment method is required to start. You are responsible for all activity under your account and for keeping your login credentials confidential.
2. Subscriptions and billing
After the trial period, continued access requires an active paid subscription, billed and processed by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. You can cancel or manage your subscription at any time from the billing page; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law.
3. Your data
You retain all rights to the business data you enter or upload, including ledger entries, inventory, expenses, uploaded documents, and everything else associated with your business. We do not sell your data, and we do not use one business's data to generate suggestions or content for another business.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service: no attempting to breach security, no interfering with other tenants' access, no uploading unlawful content, and no using the Service to violate applicable law.
5. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers to operate, including Stripe (payment processing) and, if document digitization is enabled, Anthropic's Claude API (document data extraction). Your use of the Service is also subject to those providers' own terms where applicable.
6. Termination
You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe pose a security risk to the Service or other tenants.
7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. The Service assists with bookkeeping and record-keeping but does not constitute accounting, tax, or legal advice. Consult a qualified professional for those. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mainstreet Ledger is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Service.
8. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above; continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [set NEXT_PUBLIC_GOVERNING_LAW to your state or country], without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
